BODYBUILDING WORLD MOURNS JOHN MEADOWS

by Christian Duque

John Meadows was one of the most passionate, knowledgeable, and positive people I’ve ever met in the fitness industry. To write about him in past tense, is very bizarre, to the say the least. While I can’t say we were friends, we were most definitely acquaintances. He knew who I was and I most definitely knew who he was. I’d been a fan for years and I always found his content to be very factual and innovative.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ROELLY? WILL HE QUALIFY FOR THE OLYMPIA?

by Matt Weik

Without actually being there, it’s hard to say what happened at the Chicago Pro. Obviously, the pictures are all over the internet, and mouths dropped once again when Hunter Labrada stepped out on the stage. But the big shocker of the show is probably Roelly Winklaar. I mean, what happened? We are talking about a Top 5 bodybuilder at the Olympia barely squeezing into the Top 5 at the Chicago Pro!

FTC ANNOUNCES BRANDS CAN USE “MADE IN THE USA” ON PACKAGING

by Matt Weik

The supplement industry has been a target for years now, and lawsuits have been filed left and right for, what many would consider, the dumbest things. But welcome to America, where people sue for just about anything these days. But who would have thought the use of “Made in the USA” would have been on the radar for the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), and brands were previously told they could or could not have it on their label or packaging?

THE STATE OF BODYBUILDING, TODAY

by Christian Duque

Bodybuilding has always been about hard work. Every rep, every meal, and every pill and powder, contributes to what physique-based athlete brings to the stage. Unlike an hour-plus basketball, football, or baseball game, bodybuilders prepare for 12-16 weeks to look their best on a stage for 1-2 minutes. They’re compared to each others, must bring in a certain level of condition, and must be ready to be scrutinized by a panel of judges who know exactly what they’re looking for.

ARE MACHINES BETTER FOR SHOULDER TRAINING?

by Christian Duque

Bodybuilding is about creating the perfect physique. You can’t have big arms and no chest; you can’t have a huge torso, standing on toothpicks. You can, ultimately, do whatever you want, but if you aspire to create a look like that of the golden era of the sport, then you need to have symmetry. You may not need to have the kind of flow that’s required to compete at the national level as an amateur or among the elite level of pro bodybuilders, but you need to have balance – that’s what separates bodybuilders from fit people.

BODYBUILDER CLAPS BACK AT WOMAN ONLINE FIT-SHAMING HIM

by Matt Weik

I have a simple saying in life… “Don’t start no shit, won’t be no shit.” I’m so sick of hearing about all of this online fat-shaming and “OMG, how dare you say something so mean to someone,” while in the next breath, people are doing the same thing to those who are fit. Fat-shaming… fit-shaming… Honestly, this is all just so stupid.

HUNTER LABRADA WINS THE CHICAGO PRO!

by Christian Duque

Hunter Labrada is a bodybuilder who has lived up to the hype; he’s not only met everyone’s expectations, but he’s far surpassed them. To see Hunter on stage, with his legendary father next to him, is both historic and inspiring. As I’ve often said, legacies in bodybuilding, have it harder than most. Not only do they have to do well, in their own right, but they have to do so well, that they are able to command their own following, above and beyond that of their superstar parent(s). That’s a lot harder said than done, especially with how much bodybuilders love the past.

SHAWN RAY – PUNKS HIS HATERS, ONCE AGAIN!

by Christian Duque

I like Shawn Ray. We started out as a bit of rivals on the Muscular Development forums, but that’s no shocker; we’re both highly opinionated people who say what we want, when we want, and how we want. We don’t really like censorship and we don’t see the point in kissing ass. If your work is good, it’ll speak for itself. Walking on your knees is simply not an option. However, in addition to being an opinionated and strong-principled individual, Shawn is also an IFBB Hall of Fame Bodybuilder, a Top Olympian, a contest emcee, media personality, promoter and more!!
