SHAUN CLARIDA WILL RETAIN THE OLYMPIA 212 TITLE!

by Christian Duque

I’m very proud of Shaun Clarida. Last year, I was the only media personality that predicted the Giant Killer would win the 212 Olympia Showdown. Back then, everyone was getting more love; you had the front runner, The Lion of Lebanon, Kamal Elgarni, the defending champion, backed by powerhouse BPI Sports. You had George Petersen, Derek Lunsford, and a shortlist of other extremely dangerous bodybuilders, which also included veterans of the stage like Ashkanani, Henry, and others. The mere suggestion of Shaun Clarida, was simply not taken seriously. It wasn’t that Shaun wasn’t a hard worker or that he wasn’t respected by his peers. I think people respected the hell out of him, but they had put him in a box. For many people, Clarida could have been a champion if he were taller, if he weighed more, and/or if he competed at smaller contests with smaller guys.

212lb Bodybuilding Legend, George “Da Bull” Peterson Passes Away

by Christian Duque

George Peterson was a larger than life bodybuilding superstar, reaching Top 3 Olympia placings in not one, but two divisions. He dominated the Classic Division and then he went on to dominate The 212. He made fans wherever he went and his content spread like wildfire. The Queens NY native was often seen at the East Coast Mecca of Bodybuilding, Bev Francis Powerhouse Gym and he landed a major sponsorship with Redcon1. Although Aaron and I made peace long ago, the companies I’m loyal to, and my general disposition, put me at a distance from RC1, and as a result, of George, too.

BRANDON CURRY – THE OTHER MR. OLYMPIA

by Christian Duque

Whereas last year could have seen as many as 4 Mr. Olympias on one stage, this year is equally interesting in that it has two battling it out. We haven’t had an Olympia where the two Mr. O’s on stage are single title winners, in a long, long time. This kind of reminds me of 1985, when Samir battled Haney. At the time, they both had a Sandow each, but it was pretty obvious to all who was going to win that showdown. Haney totally redefined the sport. Similarly, there weren’t many who thought Dexter could topple Heath in 2012 – though it was, at least, plausible. Is it pretty obvious Ramy is going to win in 2021?

RONNIE COLEMAN GETS ARNOLD LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

by Christian Duque

When Arnold Schwarzenegger awards 8x Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman the Lifetime Achievement award at the contest bearing his name, it’s enough to give any bodybuilding fan goosebumps. We often talk about growing the sport of bodybuilding, what it takes to make the sport a household name, and what being a good ambassador is all about. To a certain extent, a lot of that is, simply, lip service. There’s really no litmus test to verify what grows the sport and what doesn’t, but ultimately whenever the fans are happy, that’s usually a great sign. Happy fans tend to share the sport on their platforms and that’s where I’d say the sport really reaches more people.

EXERCISE IS GREAT, BUT PROPER NUTRITION IS THE CATALYST FOR RESULTS

by Matt Weik

While many are in search of a magic pill to swallow to miraculously transform their physique with a blink of an eye, others are out there grinding it out in the gym. I commend those who are committed and schedule time every day to exercise and make it a priority. Yet, the one thing many fail to realize is that exercise is simply one piece of the equation. And when you’re looking at the overall percentage when it comes to achieving results, you’ll notice that exercise is actually a small portion. What ultimately makes up the bulk of your results is proper nutrition.

THE ENERGY GAME – FROM POWDERS TO PILLS TO CANNED DRINKS

by Christian Duque

Let’s play a game. If you can guess what I’m talking about, you win! It’s legal, it makes your heart race, it curbs your appetite and it’s everywhere! It’s calorie-free, most products get away without telling you how much their goods contain, and it can send you to a hospital bed, if not to the grave, when you consume too much, too soon. Do you know what we’re talking about? If you said caffeine, you win!!
