Beware of the Wannabe Coaches!

by Christian Duque

Bodybuilding is a sport all about hard work and discipline, it’s not a place for cookie cutters and bums – unless you’re ready to suffer, you’re simply not going to do well. That being said, competitors trust in their coaches, many believing the old wisdom of “you get what you pay for” and the Darwinian concept that only the fittest survive. Whenever someone gains your trust and you then use that trust to cheat them or exploit them, you’re an even bigger scumbag than someone who steals photos or candy bars.

Regan Grimes – Doing Bodybuilding, Right!

by Christian Duque

One of the biggest challenges to being a successful fitness celebrity, today, is being on your game – on all things. Canadian bodybuilder Regan Grimes, has been on everyone’s minds since earning professional status. At one point, he was working with Chris “The Technician” Aceto, the coach whose clients include reigning Mr. Olympia Shawn “Flexatron” Rhoden and Arnold Classic Champion Cedric McMillan. Grimes did very well with Aceto and was able to secure key placings, including a couple Top 5 outings and a much-talked about runner-up at the prestigious Vancouver Pro. Change is always good, though, and Grimes decided to try his hand in Kuwait – a move many others tried as well.

$500,000 Rob Kardashian Weight Loss Bribe

by Matt Weik

There’s no mistake with the title and it’s certainly not clickbait. Rob Kardashian was bribed by his own mother, Kris Jenner, $500,000 for every 10 pounds of weight he loses. She is challenging him to lose 50 pounds in total, with a payout of $2.5M upon completion. But wait, there’s more! HealthyWage, a purveyor of financially-induced diet contests, has tossed their hat in the ring (probably for the publicity) and offered Rob Kardashian an additional $50,000 if he hits the 50-pound weight loss goal. They even started a #HelpRobGetHealthy movement where people can give him encouragement during his journey. Will this weight loss bribe work? Here’s my take.

Real Housewives Teresa Giudice Goes Bodybuilding

by Christian Duque

There’s things you should say and things you shouldn’t, but we here at Iron Magazine believe in a No BS approach, so I’m going to make a startling confession. Although I love bodybuilding and I love action movies and I’m a red-blooded American, I do watch those Real Housewives shows, particularly the New Jersey one from back in the day. I’m the type of person who is heartbroken to find out that most “reality television,” is anything but. When I watch a program, whether it’s a show about meter maids, tow truck drivers, or a bunch of rockstars living in a house, I want reality, I want to see confrontations, I want to see drama.

Lee Labrada – The Legend Continues

by Christian Duque

The sport of bodybuilding seems to know no time, because the champions of yesterday continue inspire the youth today. In fact, I’ve found that the obsession most have with the 1990’s is a lot more than mere nostalgia. People miss the huge bodybuilders of that era, guys like Levrone, Dillett, and of course 6x Mr. Olympia, The Shadow himself, Dorian Yates. The 90’s have become the undeniable decade of conditioning, but the 80’s are also providing a great amount of inspiration, as well. The guys back then may not have been as massive as the 90’s, but they made for a very unique, very classy bridge between the Golden Era and the 90’s.

Mainstream Media Learns A New Word

by Christian Duque

Bigorexia, or muscle dysmorphia, is quickly becoming a favored term of the mainstream media. These are the pundits who oftentimes look down on bodybuilding, who are obsessed with supplements, and who all but directly mock the many amateur and professional athletes who train hard, eat clean, and compete. If it sounds like I’m a little hostile at the major news networks, I sort of am. They only seem to report on our sport when there’s a tragedy and while they’ve been obsessed with talking about steroids, now it seems they’re opting for bigorexia.

Nolvadex Reduces Fat-burning in Women but Not Men

by Anthony Roberts

Nolvadex (also known as Tamoxifen) is a precontest staple for both women and men. It’s technically a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator, but most people lump it into the general category of “anti-estrogen.” This isn’t exactly correct, since Nolvadex functions as a weak estrogen in the body. Because it’s a weak estrogen, it’s able to bind to estrogen receptors and prevent stronger estrogens from latching on.

Vegan Gains – Terminated from YouTube?

by Christian Duque

If you know anything about the world of youtube vlogging, you know that it’s a world of pushing the card, where almost anything goes, and where anyone and everyone could become the topic of conversation. Those in the fitness industry are constantly in the middle of it all. The landscape has changed drastically, however, first with the demise of the magazines, and now, with the seeming demise of the large websites. At one point the websites could hang on by offering lively message boards where people congregated and spent days and nights arguing with each other, but even those forums are shells of what they once were.
