The Real Reason Roelly Didn’t Rule In Columbus

by Christian Duque

I’m not going to sit here and tell you that there’s a reason Roelly Winklaar didn’t go to Columbus and beat everyone on stage for the win. I love The Dutch Beast and I definitely think he’s a Top 5 bodybuilder without question. Two or three years ago, such a statement wouldn’t have been a huge compliment, but nowadays, with a new Mr. Olympia and very competitive physiques from the likes of Brandon Curry, William Bonac, and Roelly Winklaar, being in the Top 3-5 is truly a milestone.

Arnold Classic Men’s Open Recap: Brandon Curry on the Rise?

by Matt Weik

Last year I wrote a recap of the Arnold Classic (2018) and begged the question of if we could have asked any more from the Arnold. I thought 2018 was one of the better Arnold Classic’s to date and while this year had some duds in the show, I still think the show overall is getting better with each passing year – similar to the physique of Brandon Curry.

Is Personal Training the Ticket for Top Bodybuilders?

by Christian Duque

I’ve been in the bodybuilding press for over a decade, interviewing athletes over email, in-person backstage, on podcasts and tv shows. I have so many insights, I’ve looked at the sport from so many different perspectives, and I’ve come to appreciate just how demanding the lifestyle is, how expensive it can get, and the fact that in order to be the best, you have got to be ready to sacrifice, whether it’s living large portions of your years on the road, sleeping in hotel rooms, and/or traveling from contest to contest. Doing the business of bodybuilding is expensive, even if you’re making money in the process. Although many employers have become increasingly supportive of physique-based athletes, sometimes it’s not only being flexible around preps and contests, many simply cannot keep active competitors on the roster, because anyone who truly is vying for a coveted IFBB Pro League pro card, may have to do multiple contests in order to nationally qualify.

Evidence Why You Should Exercise Over Lunch

by Matt Weik

I stopped counting the number of times people have told me that they don’t have time to exercise. Yet, we all get lunch breaks that allow us free time to spend however we see fit. One of the best ways to get in your workout each day is to use your lunch break to exercise – and you’ll still have time to eat. I work with clients who I have do their cardio over their lunch. All they do is take a pair of shoes along with them to work, and during their lunch break they go out and briskly walk around the building or surrounding area. Now, researchers are showing that with as little as 10 minutes of exercise, you can boost your brain power. Exercise and a brain boost? I call that a WIN!

Flexatron – The Champion’s In the House

by Christian Duque

I don’t know if it’s just me, but this year the Arnold seemed way bigger than ever before. It was practically impossible to move about the expo area, but at the same time, everyone had a blast and made their way to all the booths they wanted to get to. One thing I noticed and really appreciated, was just how much 2018 Mr. Olympia Shawn “Flexatron” Rhoden was interacting with the fans, media, and officials.

Why Are Natural Bodybuilders Always Questioned?

by Christian Duque

The sport of bodybuilding is all about health and wellness, about lifting and eating right, and building positive attributes like self-confidence, emotional balance, and a will to create and produce, to break from the pack and do your own thing. The sport has given folks with pretty dire circumstances, from depression to eating disorders to rough pasts, a second chabce on life. We are a sport that admires what each and every athlete can do, whether naturally or with the help of supplements. What’s very bizarre, though, most especially within our circles, is the reluctance so many have for what can be achieved, simply through eating clean, training hard, and being consistent.

RXBar Nut Butter to Compete with Nuts n More Spreads

by Matt Weik

When I found out there was such a thing as Nuts N More nut butter spreads, I literally yelled “take my money!” Who doesn’t love peanut butter? Even better, who doesn’t like healthy natural peanut butter that comes in a wide variety of flavors? For the longest time, Nuts N More has owned the market when it came to nut butter spreads. However, now RXBar is tossing their hat in the ring with their RXBar Nut Butter varieties. The question becomes, can they compete?

RIP Jeff Everson – Bodybuilding Legend

by Christian Duque

If you’re a fan of bodybuilding, then the name Cory Everson should ring a bunch of bells!! The 6x Ms. Olympia, is considered one of the greatest of all times. Her husband, Jeff, was a key part of Cory’s success on the stage and in the fitness industry. Although the couple’s fame was before my time, I pride myself on being a historian of bodybuilding. When you look back at the many covers that Jeff and Cory shared, it paints a very beautiful picture of what bodybuilding was then. Don’t get me wrong, I love where the sport is today and I especially love digital media; however, during their heyday, it was also very special. I really miss buying magazines and I really miss the excitement each month of seeing the new issues on the stands.
