WILL GNC SURVIVE AS A BRICK & MORTAR CHAIN?

by Christian Duque

Let’s cut right to the chase as opposed to spending half an article trying to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. When it comes to business, change is inevitable. You either evolve or you get left behind. Sometimes companies, particularly large ones, can defy changing times and keep it business as usual for the indefinite future. This is a way of maintaining an internal status quo, while ignoring the larger one at play in the marketplace. There’s a variety of reasons why this might be more suitable than scrapping old ways of doing things instead of teaching an old dog new tricks.

THE BOSTON MASS PODCAST

by Christian Duque

If you like bodybuilding and you like to stay up to date with the sport, then this is going to be an easy sell. I love watching and listening to programs that cover the fitness industry with class. There’s so many websites and so many programs that are all about chasing hits. When your single objective is fame, the concept of ethics goes out the window.

THE KAI GREENE VARIETY SHOW

by Christian Duque

Bodybuilders have a tendency to take themselves way too seriously. There’s guys who live that GQ lifestyle, showing off expensive cars, the snazziest threads, and only post to their social media when they’re eating somewhere elegant, staying at a ritzy hotel, or partying at a club somewhere exotic. A lot of those guys, however, don’t have a pot to piss in, but that’s neither here nor there. The reality of the matter is that fans don’t identify with athletes, whatever the sport, who tend to hold their fame and fortune over the heads of those who support them.

RICH GASPARI SAYS OVER SATURATION IS KILLING SUPPLEMENT QUALITY

by Matt Weik

In a recent interview, Rich Gaspari told Generation Iron that he believes supplement quality is going down because there is an over saturation in the market. It’s interesting to hear this coming from Rich Gaspari who owns Gaspari Nutrition because it’s something I’ve been saying for a long time as well. Not only is the supplement quality as a whole going down, but also the margins for all parties involved.

WHO NEEDS TV, WHEN YOU HAVE DIGITAL MUSCLE?

by Christian Duque

Who remembers when bodybuilding was on television, when you could see it on ESPN, Fox Sports, or when there was talk of NBC covering the 2014 Mr. Olympia? Bodybuilding is a sport that’s well aware of it’s cult-like existence, but which has always had mainstream aspirations. This isn’t a sport that wants to stay small, it’s one that wants to lead the fitness revolution into households from coast to coast and around the world. In fact, former IFBB President Ben Weider, had a lifelong goal of seeing the sport in the Olympics.

THE OAK TAKES A BIKE RIDE

by Christian Duque

So, wait a minute? Is this article all about a bike ride? That musta been some bike, some trip, right? Well, here’s the deal. When former CA governor, Mr. Olympia, and namesake of the second biggest physique-based contest in the world goes for a bike ride, wearing a loud shirt promoting the World Gym logo, and rides along the same streets that he called home some 40-50 years ago, then that is very noteworthy.

A NEW ERA BEGINS – THE 2020 OLYMPIA WEEKEND

by Christian Duque

First and foremost, let me just say that the old Spanish saying, “no hay mal que por bien no venga,” (there’s no bad that won’t bring good) rings true. We’ve had a horrible 2020 as a result of the COVID19 pandemic. The coronavirus left gyms closed indefinitely, it resulted in the cancellation of the largest fitness expos in the world (i.e., The Arnold Sports Festival), and it was the direct result of countless contests being either cancelled or postponed. One of the biggest and most hyped contests of all, The Rock’s Athleticon in Atlanta, GA, was postponed to 2021.

OLYMPIA DARK HORSE: HAS EVERYONE ALREADY FORGOTTEN ABOUT FLEX LEWIS?

by Matt Weik

2020 has been one of the most #%$*&@ up years any of us has experienced. If there was a box of bad event dominoes, 2020 would be pushing the first one over and causing the snowball effect we’ve experienced thus far (hopefully we are done for the year). That being said, everything that has been going on has crushed the bodybuilding industry as competitors aren’t able to hit the gym nor are shows allowed to take place due to the inability to have large gatherings.

BRAZILIAN SYNTHOL GIRL – A SOCIAL MEDIA PHENOMENON

by Christian Duque

Although the title speaks to synthol, what we’re really talking about here is SEO’s, or site enhancing oils. Synthol is just one of many different types of SEO’s and it’s often used to describe them all. The reality, however, is that most people who use these types of products, particularly those who make waves on social media and tend to go viral, are actually using homemade concoctions that oftentimes create cartoonish looking shapes.
